Production Blog: Music Mania!

Image
After finishing filming with the intention of editing next I informed my editor it was time to begin! My group mate Connor and I decided to collaborate on ideas for the editing of the video, so we met up after school at the local coffee shop! After arriving we realized getting our music finalized was a critical part of the editing process. Previously I had done research on what songs fit with my genre of horror and what type of artists produced these songs or sound tracks. After doing some research as a group my group mate addison suggested the song, "Born Too Late" by the Poni-tails. I composed an email to Warner Chappel, the producing company of the song. However, after a week of no reply I found the company’s contact number and called. The representative I spoke to said that use of the song would be $1,000-$2,000. This was completely out of my budget and my group’s as a whole. So, after looking into other options I discovered royalty free music. Which means the individual

Production Blog: Filming Finale

After filming all of my outdoor scenes at Birch State Park, I decided to wrap up the other half of filming today. I made sure to call on all my actors that were in today's scenes. I only needed two of my group members, Addison and Connor, as well as myself for the scenes filmed today. Since today my group and I had no school, I instructed them to come over at 11 A.M. so I could get an early start on filming. I followed my usual procedure of getting my actors into their costumes and makeup. Today, only Addison playing Ashley, and me playing Megan, were needed. However, I made sure to have my cameraman Connor come as well. Connor ran into some traffic, so I began filming the scene in which Ashley is getting ready for her date with Noah. While I have a bit of filming experience it was difficult for me to perfect the lighting and angles at first. I made sure to record multiple shots of each motion in the scene. Addison and I disagreed a few times during today's filming session as

Production Blog: Filming Take Two

After an issue with timing and props last time I attempted to film, today I attempted to film again. Earlier this week when trying to film the scenes taking place at Birch State Park, I forgot a prop and could not film. So, I had told my actors and the filming crew to meet at my house as it was near the filming site.  Since today was a half-day of school my groupmates arrived at around 1 P.M. and I could begin the process of filming. First, I made my actors get into their costumes and did their makeup. Next, I prepared my bag with essential items. I brought my ring light, the prop knife, fake blood, water, a first aid kit, and the keys to the park. After everyone was ready to leave I drove my group and I to Birch State Park. After parking and grabbing my bag and the camera I had to find the best lighting to film in. Since the majority of the outdoor scenes were planned to be shot at dusk the sun was setting. After adjusting the direction of filming many times, the first scene I filmed

After being rained out during my last attempt of filming, I told my group today I would begin filming. As originally planned I wanted to attempt filming all of the outdoor scenes. I instructed my partners Mya, Addison, and Connor to meet after our last class of the day at 2:40 so I could drive us to my house. I planned on filming at the nearby park, Birch State Park. Addison and Mya came home with me after school and I drove them to my house as it was near my house. We planned on filming using Connor’s camera, but he left it at home. Connor had also not come in his correct costume so he needed to go home to get his camera and costume. He left school and arrived home. He ended up arriving at my house (the filming location), at 5:30. In the meantime, I got Addison into her costume as she was the only other actor being filmed besides Connor. Once Connor arrived I first filmed the bike scene that showed Addison, playing Ashley, sneaking out, and heading to her date with Noah. Addison orig

Production Blog: A Rainy Day

Today I planned on filming the last few scenes of our film. My ring light I needed to film the majority of my outdoor scenes arrived earlier this morning. So, I talked to my group and decided to have everyone meet at my house because it was closest to the filming location. I had everyone arrive at 5pm as I planned to film the majority of the  outside scenes. These scenes were planned to be filmed in the dark to create an eerie effect, so everyone arrived at my house later at night. After arriving I gave the Connor and Addison, who played Noah and Ashley, their costumes and did everyone’s makeup if it was needed for their character. I decided that Ashley would be wearing natural makeup with exaggerated features such as blush and highlighter dye to the harsh artificial lighting. The only other character I was shooting today was Noah. The only makeup that was needed was the fake blood that I had ordered online. However, it did not arrive to my house yet. Since my group and I would be bik

Production Blog: Setting Details

Image
After completing various other steps to prepare for the production of my final task, I still needed to sort out some final details. My group had agreed to film in several different locations including many in my home and neighborhood. The bedroom and TV room of my house will be used in order to get many shots of my production.  The remainder of the production will be filmed in the surrounding area of the local State park, a playground, and the main road/street. While filming location and filming schedule was well established, I felt as though many details were left out. First, I wanted to plan every actor's costume. I started out with the Newscaster as she is the first to appear in our production. I decided the newscaster would be wearing a button-down formal shirt and a blazer. Next, Ashley's mother will be wearing jeans and a plain shirt. This is going to clearly distinguish the mother. Next, Ashley will be wearing multiple casual costumes created to replicate traditional te

Storyboard Blog

In our storyboard we drew each shot we planned on filming. The first page of our storyboard introduces the main character, Ashley, her mother, Megan, who is Ashley’s best friend, and the current news coverage about a murderer.  The second page of our storyboard shows Ashley introducing Noah to Megan and to the audience for the first time. Megan leaves Ashley’s house and the remaining scenes build up suspense as Ashley gets ready to go to sleep while texting Noah. Finally Ashley is shown waking up and texting Noah.  The third Page of our storyboard shows Ashley getting ready to go out with Noah, as she puts on makeup and blow dries her hair. The next scene shows Ashley sneaking out at night and grabbing her bike. Lastly she brings biking down her street.  The fourth page of our storyboard shows Ashley arriving in mysterious looking woods. She looks around for Noah but is unable to find him at first. Diegetic sound of something stirring in the woods frightens Ashley. Ashley calls Noah’s
