Critical Creative Reflection

  1.  How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? My Media project uses conventions of an Alternative genre and a music video in general. My music video uses costumes, makeup, and acting to represent gender roles. I used party clothing such as dresses for my female actors, and a suit for my male actor. After conducting research on other music videos by Cobra Starship, I realized most of them were filing in "happy", "fun", locations. Therefore, my music video was filmed at a party location. My music video's plot was a love story. It depicted the main character daydreaming of falling in love with my male actor. Gender roles are usually depicted as a girl falling in love with an unknown man, often showing, "love at first sight". My video also used similar fast, fun, editing techniques such as a spin shot to keep viewers entertained. My actors were also shown lip singing as used in other music vid

My Music video!

My music video is complete! I had so much fun filming this music video and editing it! I learned a lot about my partners as well as myself. I enjoyed the overall planning of this music video the most! To begin, planning costumes was very enjoyable for me. I have always loved fashion, so picking these costumes was exciting for me. I also enjoyed making the storyboard for my music video, as I could draw how I envisioned my commercial. Art has always been a passion of mine so I was very happy to create the storyboard. While planning for my music video was fun, I enjoyed the filming process as well! I did theatre for 4 years so I enjoyed using my skills to both act and direct! My music video helped me develop many important skills and it helped me further my time management.

Finishing touches

Today was my second day of editing. After finishing the split screen for my videos. I had to finish a few more scenes of the actresses leading up to the party. First, a scene showing the actresses meeting up and giving high-fives. This shot was filmed using a tracking shot and took a lot of takes during filming. I had over 10 takes of this shot to look through! In this shot my group members and I were all pictured, so I needed someone else to film rather than Mya, my normal camera girl. So, I instructed my male actor to film. Since this shot was filmed from a back profile I could not see what he was filming. Unfortunately he filmed the scenes vertically instead of horizontally. After talking with my group mates I decided everyone decided to return to my house after school. After arriving everyone got dressed into their costumes and makeup, I filmed the 5th scene over again. After filming I reviewed the takes and sent everyone home. Now that I had the scene filmed to correct way, lands

Beginning editing!

Today, I began my first day of editing my music video.  My first step was to organize all of the clips into the order they occurred in my music video. Since I had filmed some scenes in a different order I reorganized them correctly to make the editing process easier. After organizing scenes I look at the serpeare takes of each scene to find the best one for my video. While some scenes has very obvious good takes, others scenes did not. I found myself comparing many of the takes, so I ended up consulting my group mates for assistance. After selecting the best clips I downloaded them all onto my phone and moved them into my editing program. Next, I wanted to immediately get my music uploaded into iMovie, as some of my clips included lip syncing. I had to use an app that converted my song into an Mp4 file. I used this film to upload into my editing program. Next, I needed to trim down many beginnings and ending of my clips to only include the important parts, and to stay on track of my t

Finishing Filming!

On my previous day of filming one of my actors had to leave early so I had to continue a second day of filming. All of the actors arrived at the filming site and I began getting them into their costumes, hair, and makeup. After I reviewed the previous day’s shots I realized one of my actor’s scenes has not been filmed at the right angle. I got her into place and reshoot this scene before reviewing it multiple times. After this I planned to continue the rest of my filming process. I had left off on the scene before actors entered the party. My next scene showed an actor daydreaming as the camera zooms into her mind. This shot was very hard to produce correctly. As it had to be the correct length to not only match with the track, but also with my storyboard. Around five shots later, this scene was complete. Following this, I moved to my second filming location, “at the party”, the rest of my scenes needed to be filmed here. The first one that needed filmed was a spin shot with two acto

A fantastic day of filming

Today, my group and I planned to start filming. I met up with my group members after school and traveled to my filming location. I began by getting all of my actors into their costumes. However, I ran into a problem when one of my actor's costumes did not fit, since I was filming at my house I was able to find a new dress for my actor to wear. Next, I began by getting by getting my actors into their filming makeup. I decided each actor would be wearing a different color of eye makeup, as well as foundation, blush, and lip-gloss. After finishing the stage makeup, I checked each actors outfits and makeup and decided on hair. I decided my hair was the only one that needed to be "styled". I used clips to tie half of it up so it was out of my face. Next,  I got my only male actor changed into his costume and used a bit of makeup to cover a few blemishes. After all actors were ready for filming I filmed out first few scenes showing each actress getting ready to go to a party.
