Production Blog: Filming Take Two
After an issue with timing and props last time I attempted to film, today I attempted to film again. Earlier this week when trying to film the scenes taking place at Birch State Park, I forgot a prop and could not film. So, I had told my actors and the filming crew to meet at my house as it was near the filming site. Since today was a half-day of school my groupmates arrived at around 1 P.M. and I could begin the process of filming. First, I made my actors get into their costumes and did their makeup. Next, I prepared my bag with essential items. I brought my ring light, the prop knife, fake blood, water, a first aid kit, and the keys to the park. After everyone was ready to leave I drove my group and I to Birch State Park. After parking and grabbing my bag and the camera I had to find the best lighting to film in. Since the majority of the outdoor scenes were planned to be shot at dusk the sun was setting. After adjusting the direction of filming many times, the first scene I filmed showed Addison, playing Ashley, walking through the forest on the way to find Noah. This shot took a few takes that I kept, as it was a tracking shot. After this I filmed Ashley walking through the woods on her phone texting. After these scenes were filmed I filmed a few extra shots such as an establishing shot of the woods. Next, I had to film Connor, playing Noah, stalking Ashley from behind a tree. This shot was extremely hard to angle right and the logical aspect of filming this scene was not fully planned beforehand. Therefore, Addison and I had a disagreement about how the scene should be filmed. However, in the end, I was able to come to a compromise with Addison and I love how this scene came out. After this, I filmed a tracing shot of Ashely hearing a loud noise in the woods and turning her head. Lastly, I needed to film Ashley lifeless and covered in blood on the ground. This scene was relatively hard to angle correctly, but I made sure to get multiple takes in order to select a favorite. Next, I filmed a Point of View shot of Noah looking at his hands covered in blood. I really like how this scene came out and cannot wait to see my production come together! The last scene I filmed of the day showed Noah cleaning the blade of the knife and grabbing his phone out of his pocket. After this scene was finished I drove my actors and film crew back to my house and wrapped up a very successful day of filming!
