Research: How to make a Short Film

Image
After watching the video and completing my own research I was able to construct a step by step process for creating a short film.  First, come up with a compelling and original idea for my short film. This can be inspired by personal experiences, current events, or just my imagination. Next, I will write a treatment or outline for my film. This should include the main plot points and character arcs, as well as any significant scenes or dialogue. Once I have a solid treatment, it's time to start writing the script. Make sure to keep the length of my film in mind, as my short film can be a maximum of 5 minutes.  As I write, focus on creating strong and relatable characters. A well-developed protagonist can help to engage my audience and make them care about the story. Keep the dialogue natural and realistic, and try to avoid heavy exposition. Show, don't tell, and use visual storytelling to convey information and emotion. Pay attention to the structure of the film. A three-act

Comparing Le Jetee, the short, and 12 Monkeys, the full-length movie

Image
Le Jetée is an influential and highly regarded science fiction film that explores the concept of time travel and the role that memory plays in shaping our perception of reality. The film tells the story of a man who is sent back in time to prevent a future disaster. Who uses a series of still photographs to depict the events of the story. The use of still images gives the film a dreamlike quality and creates a sense of uncertainty as the story unfolds.    One of the major themes of Le Jetée is the relationship between time and memory. The film suggests that our memories are not just a record of the past. But also a way of shaping our understanding of the present and the future. As the protagonist travels back in time, he is forced to confront the memories of his own past and the ways in which they have shaped his understanding of the world. The film also explores the idea that the act of remembering itself can be a form of time travel. Since we revisit the past through our memories a

Comparing 9, the short, and 9, the full-length movie

Image
The full-length movie  "9" is a 2009 animated science fiction film directed by Shane Acker. The film is based on Acker's 2005 Academy Award-nominated short film of the same name, which tells the story of a group of rag dolls who are the last remnants of humanity after a global apocalypse. One key difference between the short film and the full-length version is the length and scope of the story. The short film is only about 10 minutes long and focuses on a single character, 9, as he awakens in a post-apocalyptic world and begins to explore his surroundings. The full-length film expands on this story, adding more depth and complexity to the world and the characters. It is about an hour and a half long and follows the journey of 9 and a group of other rag dolls as they fight against a group of machines that are trying to destroy them. Another difference is the animation style. The short film is more stylized and has a more hand-drawn look, while the full-length film uses mor

Genre Decision!

Image
After completing research on three different genres I had to make the tough decision of deciding on one. Since each genre has specific advantages and disadvantages making this decision was very challenging. However,  I have always been drawn to the excitement and thrill of the action genre. Something about the fast-paced nature of action stories just draws me in and keeps me on the edge of my seat. One of the things that I love about the action genre is that it allows for a great deal of creativity and imagination. With action stories, the possibilities are endless and I can let my imagination run wild. Another reason why I choose the action genre is because it allows me to explore different worlds and scenarios. In an action story, I can take my readers on a journey to exotic locations and put them in the middle of intense and dangerous situations. I also enjoy the challenge of filming action scenes. Creating a sequence of events that is both exciting and believable can be a real tes
