Our Pitch

Image
Pitch #1: A film revealing the harsh realities of a young girl and internet predators, as she discovers her dream boy isn’t as he seems. We plan on filming shots of a young girl getting ready to go on a date with a boy she met online. As she is about to leave the house, the news broadcasts a wanted murderer that uses the internet to prey on young girls. She ignores the news and starts to ride her bike to the forest. As she's biking in the woods, there is an ominous atmosphere. There are flashes of a sketchy figure lurking behind her. She looks around thinking it’s her date, but to her surprise, he does not look like his profile picture. We really like this concept and we would be able to do it easily. We could film the majority of these scenes in one of our homes, and in the local park.  Pitch #2: A film about two normal high school girls that live a secret double life as agent spies for the United States of America.  We plan to show two girls first getting ready to go ...

My Great Group!

Image
For my final task I had to choose the three group members I would be working with! Throughout the year I have reconnected with old friends and made new ones. It was very important for me to find my strong suits before deciding on a group. For my first task one of my partners was Ely, my friend from my freshman year of high school. He took a more logical approach to the task and was thinking about the dates and timing of filming. I also worked with my friend Mya who I had met freshman year as well. She was very good at filming and editing and mainly did all of the technical aspects. Lastly, I worked with my friend Jade who I had met at the end of last year in AICE testing. She was very good at coming up with ideas for what we would be advertising and how we would do it. After our first task I knew we could have done better and focused more on getting the work done rather than having fun. On my next task Ely decided to group with some of his new friends from the football team. So, f...

Introducing Me!

Image
Hi, I am Katie Weiss! I am currently sixteen years old and live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where we are known for oranges and sunshine! I live with my mother, father, and older sister right by the beach! I am currently a sophomore in high school and I am enjoying high school so far! My last year was online due to the Corona Virus, so it is nice to be experiencing in-person learning. My school offers a variety of different elective classes as well the core subject classes. Before going into high school I was uncertain about my career path, however, I took a design class my freshman year and became interested in learning about the industry of fashion. This led to further interest in other art forms such as film. My oldest sister is currently a senior at my high school and mentioned AICE Media Studies to me, so I decided to look into taking the class. After requesting to have the class last year, I discovered I had gotten it on my schedule. Throughout this year I have learned so muc...

Critical Creative Reflection

  1.  How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? My Media project uses conventions of an Alternative genre and a music video in general. My music video uses costumes, makeup, and acting to represent gender roles. I used party clothing such as dresses for my female actors, and a suit for my male actor. After conducting research on other music videos by Cobra Starship, I realized most of them were filing in "happy", "fun", locations. Therefore, my music video was filmed at a party location. My music video's plot was a love story. It depicted the main character daydreaming of falling in love with my male actor. Gender roles are usually depicted as a girl falling in love with an unknown man, often showing, "love at first sight". My video also used similar fast, fun, editing techniques such as a spin shot to keep viewers entertained. My actors were also shown lip singing as used in other music vid...

My Music video!

My music video is complete! I had so much fun filming this music video and editing it! I learned a lot about my partners as well as myself. I enjoyed the overall planning of this music video the most! To begin, planning costumes was very enjoyable for me. I have always loved fashion, so picking these costumes was exciting for me. I also enjoyed making the storyboard for my music video, as I could draw how I envisioned my commercial. Art has always been a passion of mine so I was very happy to create the storyboard. While planning for my music video was fun, I enjoyed the filming process as well! I did theatre for 4 years so I enjoyed using my skills to both act and direct! My music video helped me develop many important skills and it helped me further my time management.
