Production Blog: Extra Details

Making my film takes a lot of planning and attention to detail. With a schedule of two shooting days, there is a lot of work to do to make sure everything runs smoothly. Here are some of the extra details I had to consider when planning my five-minute film. After I identified the specific locations I will be filming at, including both interior and exterior scenes I still had to work out the details. I first had to ensure that I have permission to film at each location and was in compliance with any local regulations. Next, I must consider the time of day I will be shooting each scene and plan accordingly. Make sure I have all the necessary equipment, including cameras, lighting, and sound equipment. Identify all the participants in my film and make sure they are available on the scheduled shooting days. Establish health and safety protocols to keep everyone on set safe and healthy. Provide personal protective equipment, such as masks and gloves, to all cast and crew members. Set up designated areas for individuals to stand or sit, and limit the number of people on set at one time to allow for social distancing. Regularly clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and shared equipment. Encourage frequent handwashing and provide hand sanitizer throughout the set. Establish daily health screenings for all cast and crew members, including temperature checks. Have a first aid kit on all filming sites in case of an emergency. Ensure that all participants have the appropriate licenses to operate any vehicles used on set. Practice action scenes to ensure the safety of all members. Identify all the props needed for each scene, such as house and car keys, flashlights, and beer bottles. Determine the necessary costumes for each character, including police officer uniforms, hoodies, and casual and formal attire. Plan for backup locations in case of weather or other issues with the original filming site. Create backup plans for participants who may not be able to attend on the scheduled shooting days. Ensure that all necessary paperwork, such as permits and releases, is in order before filming begins.
